Executive Vice President, Chief Medical Officer Dr. J. Thomas Ryan serves as the executive vice president and chief medical officer for Mary Washington Healthcare, and has been in the position since August 1998. As EVP and CMO, Dr. Ryan's primary responsibilities include quality management, care management, patient safety, clinical liaison for employed physicians, medical staff issues and strategic planning. As a senior healthcare leader, Dr. Ryan has a combination of primary care practice and executive leadership experience at the physician group practice, medical staff, board and health system levels. From 1989-1990, he served two terms as the president of the Mary Washington medical staff, where he helped in the strategic planning of an $80 million replacement hospital. Previously, Dr. Ryan served as president of Pratt Medical Center, a multi-specialty group. Throughout his successful career, Dr. Ryan has simultaneously served as medical director of Mary Washington Hospital Home Health Agency, from 1983 - 2005, while continuing to serve as a private practice physician. Dr. Ryan attended Virginia Tech for his undergraduate degree, then he received his M.D. from Medical College of Virginia – Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), a post-doctoral certificate in medical management from University of North Carolina, and a Master of Science degree in health administration from VCU. |
