Thank you for your interest in our Family Medicine Residency!
We are excited to welcome residents to Mary Washington Hospital and our new family medicine clinic in July of 2023. Mary Washington Healthcare is an award-winning non-profit healthcare system in Fredericksburg, Virginia with a robust plan to build multiple graduate medical education programs over the next five years. The family medicine program will begin with six PGY-1 residents and grow to a full program of 18 residents over the first three years. We look forward to training you in an environment where you can truly blossom as a well-rounded family medicine physician.
Mary Washington Healthcare is a regional referral center serving Northern Virginia, located halfway between Washington, DC and Richmond, Virginia. Residents will spend most of their time at both the newly renovated family medicine residency clinic and at Mary Washington Healthcare’s main campus, which includes the main 471-bed Mary Washington Hospital, Snowden at Fredericksburg Behavioral Health Hospital, Regional Cancer Center, Women’s Center, Moss Free Clinic, John F. Fick III Conference Center, Ambulatory Services Center, and the Tompkins-Martin Medical Pavilion. Residents will be exposed to a breadth of pathology and a diverse population, providing endless learning opportunities for aspiring family medicine physicians. Residents will train on EPIC medical records in both the hospital and ambulatory clinic rotations.
Top priorities of the family medicine program are personal and professional growth of the residents to include resident wellness. The overall program structure allows residents to achieve a work/life balance while being held to the highest academic standards. Residents will be paired with a faculty mentor, and career development will begin early in your PGY-1 year. Our diverse faculty will inspire you with their areas of special interest so that you can learn about anything within family medicine that you may want to consider.
