Program Director
Thank you for your interest in our General Surgery training program! We are excited to embark on this journey with you and Mary Washington Healthcare. We are looking to attract residents who are committed to the pursuit of surgical knowledge and providing excellent care to our surrounding community. The program will start with two categorical PGY 1 residents and ultimately grow to a complement of ten residents.
First, a little about Mary Washington Healthcare and Fredericksburg: MWHC is a regional health care system with 471 beds serving the Fredericksburg community and surrounding areas. It is the only Level II trauma center in the region and provides a wide breadth of specialized surgical care in breast, endocrine, thoracic, colorectal and minimally invasive general surgery services. Our faculty have trained at various institutions all over the country, and this diversity of experience is one of our strengths. Our common goal, however, remains delivering compassionate and high-quality surgical care to the patients we serve.
The clinical rotations, didactics and simulation curriculum have been designed to expose you to the wide breadth of pathology and cases that general surgery and its subspecialties has to offer. Our goal is that at the end of your training, the foundation that you will have built here will prepare you to excel in your future endeavors, whether it be independent practice or continuing your training with a fellowship.
