Tuesday
7:30 a.m.–8:30 a.m. Morbidity and Mortality Conference (Weekly)
- A resident-led presentation of surgical complications with discussions
focused on review of surgical literature, patient safety and improving
the quality of patient care.
4:00 p.m.–5:30 p.m. Resident Teaching Conference (Weekly)
- A didactic session based on the SCORE (Surgical Council On Resident Education)
curriculum and textbook readings.
Friday
6:15 a.m.–7:15 a.m. Surgical Simulation Laboratory (every 2 weeks)
- Lab training with a focus in the PGY 1 and PGY 2 years on developing a
foundation for laparoscopic, endoscopic and robotic skills. Senior residents
will continue to participate by teaching junior residents and developing
more advanced skills.
7:30 a.m.–8:30 a.m. Grand Rounds (bi-monthly on the 2nd Friday of the month)
- Monthly lecture series with General Surgery topic presented by MWHC faculty,
outside presenter, or Chief Resident.
7:30 a.m.–8:30 a.m. General Surgery Journal Club (quarterly)
- A review of 2–3 journal articles on General Surgery and subspecialty
topics. This resident-led discussion will focus on the critical appraisal
of study methodology, review of research statistics and their interpretation
and applicability of study findings to patient care.
