Andrew Mangano, DO,FACP,FHM

Dr. Mangano grew up in the suburbs of Philadelphia and attended The Pennsylvania State University as an undergraduate where he met his wife, Sarah. After college, he attended PCOM and then completed Internal Medicine residency at Lehigh Valley Health Network.

He was very fortunate to have excellent teaching faculty who first sparked his interest in medical education. He worked as a private hospitalist for four years before moving into academics. Dr. Mangano always knew he would find his way into teaching, and he was approached for a core faculty position while working at Grand Strand Medical Center in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

He has been involved with medical education since 2014 and have won multiple “teacher of the year” awards. Dr. Mangano spent the last eight years helping build new residency programs at Grand Strand as core faculty, the Internal Medicine Associate Program Director, and Transitional Year program Director. He held many leadership positions including Chairman of Professional Peer Review, Chairman of Medicine, and Chief of Staff while in South Carolina. He currently sit on the Transitional Year Review Committed for the ACGME. During the pandemic, he obtained his MBA at Coastal Carolina University with a concentration in healthcare administration.

Dr. Mangano was drawn to Mary Washington Healthcare for the opportunity to build his own program from the ground up and help shape the future of medicine within the healthcare system. After meeting with hospital leadership, he was impressed with the five-year vision of the hospital and their sincere commitment to develop a world class program. Throughout his career, he has valued the personal connections he has made with residents and faculty. When not at work, he enjoys spending time with his wife and daughter, traveling, exploring new restaurants, and playing golf.
