Michael Summers, MD, is a board certified family physician and Fellow in the American Academy of Family Physicians. He has been actively practicing family medicine since 1988. Dr. Summers earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Butler University in 1981, followed by his MD degree from Indiana University School of Medicine in 1985. He completed his Family Practice Residency at Community Hospital Indianapolis in 1988.
While in private practice, Dr. Summers taught residents and medical students rotating through his office. He enjoys teaching clinical skills, as well as educating students on all aspects of medicine. He has special interest in preventative care, diabetes, sports medicine, Family Practice procedures, physician well-being, and coordination within our healthcare system.
Dr. Summers served as the Clinical Director at Community Hospital Residency program as well as the Medical Director for Hancock Physician Network. Dr. Summers was voted a Top Doctor in Family Medicine by Indianapolis Monthly Magazine in 2011, 2012, and 2013. In addition, he received the 2021 Distinguished Mentor Award from Marian University College of Osteopathic Medicine.
Most recently, Dr. Summers has taught Family Medicine full-time at Marian University College of Osteopathic Medicine, while practicing Family Medicine at Trinity Clinic in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Married for 39 years, Dr. Summers has 3 daughters and 2 grandchildren.
