Mary Washington Hospital Expands Services with New Observation Unit

Fredericksburg, VA - Mary Washington Healthcare (MWHC) has expanded its services with the opening of a new observation unit on the Mary Washington Hospital (MWH) campus.

Observation medicine is one of the newest and most rapidly growing subspecialties in emergency medicine. This specialized area of medicine focuses on treatment options between traditional inpatient hospital admission and discharge from the emergency department. Patients in the observation unit receive essential treatment while undergoing tests to determine if they can rest at home and be treated by a primary care physician or a specialist or if hospital admission is necessary.

“It’s an honor to better serve our patients with the enhanced services offered in the new observation unit. Patients who visit the observation unit will receive safe, quality care from skilled, compassionate professionals in a state-of-the-art facility. I’m deeply appreciative of the hard work invested by our team and our leadership to meet the healthcare needs of our growing community,” said Eliese Bernard, Vice President and Administrator, Mary Washington Hospital.

The MWH observation unit opened in August 2018 and features 27 patient rooms. More information about the observation unit and observation medicine is available online at the MWHC website.
