Stafford, VA, December 20, 2023— Stafford Hospital is pleased to announce it has acquired a $2 million da Vinci XI surgical robot system. The da Vinci robot is the first step in plans to build a robust robotics program at Stafford Hospital.
Debra Marinari, Associate Vice President, Hospital Operations, Stafford Hospital says, “We are incredibly thrilled to launch the Robotics Program at Stafford Hospital as patient well-being is our top priority. Our commitment to investing in a robotics surgery program is a testament to our dedication to innovation, exceptional healthcare, and staying true to our mission to improve the health of the people we serve in our community and surrounding counties.”
The da Vinci robotic assisted surgical (RAS) system is the most widely used multiport robotic surgery system in the world and allows surgeons to perform a variety of surgical procedures across multiple specialties in the most efficient, minimally invasive manner. Surgeons will be able to perform many different types of surgical procedures with the da Vinci robot, including minimally invasive gynecological procedures. Stafford Hospital has been a Center of Excellence in Minimally Invasive Gynecology since 2014, and the acquisition of this system will support the program’s goals of meeting the gynecologic surgery needs of patients in the Stafford community.
Kiyanda Baldwin Young, MD, MPH, FACS, is a board-certified surgeon with special training in colorectal surgery and recently completed training in robotic surgery. She performed her first case using the new da Vinci surgical robot at Stafford Hospital. “I can’t tell you how excited I am to have the da Vinci Xi here at Stafford Hospital,” says Dr. Baldwin-Young. “Studies show the benefits of da Vinci surgery as having less blood loss, fewer complications, less need for narcotic pain medicine, faster recovery, and smaller incisions associated with minimal scarring in comparison to open surgery. This technology will improve our patient outcomes and provide shorter hospital stays for our patients.”
