Stafford, VA, (April 30, 2024) – Stafford Hospital and Coldwell Banker Elite celebrate another successful Spring Fever 5K with the 100,000th runner crossing the finish line for the Stafford Race and Grand Prix Series. The Stafford Race Series (SRS) began with the Stafford Hospital Spring Fever 5K and the Kids ½ mile Fun Run on Saturday, April 13, 2024. This race is the first of four races in SRS and one of 12 races in the Coldwell Banker Elite Grand Prix.
“We are proud of our Stafford Race Series continuing to promote community involvement and general wellness,” says Xavier Richardson, MWHC Chief Development Officer and President of Mary Washington and Stafford Hospital Foundations. “Since its inception in 2010, the Stafford Hospital 5K has raised over $300,000 to benefit Stafford Hospital’s new equipment and training needs with a record breaking 537 registered participants this year!”
The Grand Prix Series began 31 years ago with Coldwell Banker Elite being the Title Sponsor for 30 years. Since 1994, there have been 319 Grand Prix Series races that have raised about $1.6 million for local charities and organizations.
Kevin Breen, owner of Coldwell Banker Elite and Chair of Stafford Hospital Foundation, expressed his excitement about the event, stating, “We are thrilled to be a part of the Stafford Hospital Spring Fever 5K and the Grand Prix Series. It is an honor to support such a worthy cause and witness the positive impact it has on the community.”
As a token of appreciation, The Fredericksburg Area Running Club and Stafford Hospital presented the 100,000th runner, Krys Bashista with a prize package valued at more than $200. Krys and her colleagues from Stafford County Schools are long-time participants in the Stafford Hospital 5K, even participating virtually during the pandemic. “A bunch of us at school who were friends started walking after school and tried walking once or twice a week. We’re accountability buddies.”
The Stafford Hospital Spring 5K and the Grand Prix Series continue to make a significant impact on the community, promoting wellness and supporting local charities and organizations. With the successful completion of the 100,000th runner, Stafford Hospital and Coldwell Banker Elite look forward to many more years of fostering community involvement and improving the lives of individuals in need.
