Stafford, VA, (February 27, 2024) – Stafford Hospital is honored to celebrate fifteen years of unwavering dedication to the Stafford community. Prior to the opening of Stafford Hospital in 2009, the Fredericksburg region was served by a single hospital for 110 years. Since its opening, Stafford Hospital has been a beacon of exceptional healthcare, tirelessly enhancing access to services and adapting to the evolving needs of the Stafford community. Reflecting on their journey, Stafford Hospital stands proud of their many accomplishments and look forward to many more years of serving with compassion, expertise, and innovation.
Over the past 15 years, Stafford Hospital has delivered 13,844 babies and cared for over 500,000 patients in the Emergency Department. The dedicated team has been supported by 781 adult, junior, and college volunteers whose remarkable generosity has translated into an astounding 90,236 hours of service, enriching the lives of the patients, visitors, and hospital associates.
Stafford Hospital also opened a dedicated state-of-the-art cardiac catheterization lab in 2021, ushering in a new era of cardiovascular care for the Stafford community. Recognizing the demand for these services, Stafford Hospital was able to double the capacity for stress testing, echocardiograms, and cardiac catheterizations.
In 2022, Stafford Hospital’s Family Birth Place celebrated a significant milestone with the expansion of newborn care to include a Level II Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Previously, the Intermediate Level Nursery provided specialized care for babies born at 34 weeks or later. With this expansion, Stafford Hospital is now equipped to care for babies born at 32 weeks or later, further enhancing the ability to support the health and well-being of the tiniest patients and their families.
Stafford Hospital’s commitment to pioneering advancements in healthcare led to the introduction of the Virtual Nursing Program in 2022. This innovative initiative sees virtual nurses collaborating seamlessly with bedside care teams, offering comprehensive patient education, real-time chart review, immediate access to interpreter services, and much more. By streamlining these vital support functions, our bedside nurses can devote their full attention to direct patient care, maximizing their scope of practice and enhancing overall patient outcomes.
In 2023, Stafford Hospital’s dedication to excellence was reaffirmed as their minimally invasive gynecological surgery program achieved reaccreditation for the tenth consecutive year as a Center of Excellence by the Surgical Review Corporation (SRC), a renowned nonprofit organization dedicated to patient safety.
2023 also marked the introduction of Stafford Hospital’s robotics program, highlighted by the acquisition of a state-of-the-art $2 million Da Vinci surgical robot system. This cutting-edge technology empowers surgeons to perform a wider range of minimally invasive procedures, ultimately leading to quicker patient recovery times and improved surgical outcomes.
Since its inception, the Stafford Hospital Foundation Community Benefit Fund has awarded over 150 grants totaling $2.3 million to many local nonprofit partner organizations for initiatives that support Stafford Hospital’s strategic priorities and the Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP). The recipient organizations include a variety of partners, among them Fredericksburg Regional Transit (FRED), Stafford County Public Schools Head Start Program, Action in Community Through Service (ACTS), Stafford Junction, Stafford County Department of Social Services, and Healthy Generation’s Area Agency on Aging.
“As we celebrate these milestones and achievements, Stafford Hospital remains steadfast in our unwavering commitment to serving our community with compassion, innovation, and excellence,” says Debra Marinari, Associate Vice President of Hospital Operations at Stafford Hospital. “We are dedicated to continually pushing the boundaries of medical advancement, ensuring that our patients receive the highest quality care possible. With each passing year, we look forward to forging new paths, embracing emerging technologies, and deepening our connections with the community we proudly serve.”
