Mary Washington Hospice has achieved Level II with We Honor Veterans, an innovative program developed by the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization in collaboration with the Department of Veterans Affairs.
It may come as a surprise to many that every day, 1,800 Veterans pass away. That's over 680,000 Veterans each year, accounting for 25 percent of all annual deaths in the country. A generation of World War II and Korean War Veterans is currently making end-of-life care decisions, and they are swiftly followed by younger Vietnam War Veterans, many of whom are facing serious illnesses at a relatively young age.
The freedom we enjoy as U.S. citizens is a result of the sacrifices made by these brave men and women. It's our responsibility to ensure we recognize and support them throughout their lives.
If you know a Veteran in need of the specialized care provided by hospice and palliative care for those facing serious and life-limiting illnesses, please reach out and help them discover the services available. Contact Mary Washington Hospice at 540.741.3580 or e-mail hospiceinfo@mwhc.com to learn more about the ways we support our nation’s heroes.
Every Veterans Day, in collaboration with the We Honor Veterans program, Mary Washington Hospice staff, together with active-duty military volunteers, conduct special ceremonies to pay tribute to veterans living in nearby long-term care facilities. During these ceremonies, veterans are presented with an American flag pin as a token of gratitude for their service.
