Endocrine conditions can be difficult to diagnose and challenging to treat. That’s why it’s important to choose an endocrine surgeon who has deep experience and a track record of excellent outcomes.
At Mary Washington Healthcare, our surgical team is comprised of Christa Ilić, MD and Jeffrey Pelton, MD. Dr. Ilić completed a dedicated endocrine fellowship at Duke University, and Dr. Pelton completed his surgical oncology fellowship at Fox Chase Cancer Center. Both specialists are committed to providing you with the latest surgical approaches for your condition. Specifically, Dr. Ilić is the first and only surgeon in the region to offer an advanced approach to diagnosis of thyroid cancers by using genomic testing on thyroid biopsies. She also uses intraoperative nerve monitoring on all endocrine surgeries.
Together, Drs. Ilić and Pelton successfully treat hundreds of patients each year for a range of endocrine conditions—from benign to malignant.

When planning treatment, our team works with specialists from across our health system to develop a treatment plan that is personalized to you. This process may include endocrinologists, medical and radiation oncologists, and pathologists depending upon your diagnosis.
As often as possible, we strive to provide a minimally invasive approach to surgery. This reduces blood loss and the risk of infection as well as the time you spend recovering. In most cases, patients are discharged from the hospital the same day as their surgery so they can recover at home.
