Chris and Lauren, along with their five-year-old son Wyatt, traveled from Alaska to the east coast to visit family just before the holidays. Lauren, at 26 weeks pregnant, had no complications with her pregnancy and was cleared to travel. What was planned to be a week vacation turned into a three-month stay as Lauren was diagnosed with placenta accreta, resulting in Sebastian being born at 29 weeks. And that was just the start.
Mary Washington Healthcare’s Level III neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) and partnership with Children’s National Hospital’s neonatologists and Level IV NICU helped Sebastian get the care he needed and eventually allowed for everyone to return back to Alaska.
