Program Director

Thank you for your interest in our Mary Washington Healthcare Internal Medicine Residency Program in Fredericksburg, Virginia. We are thrilled to welcome our first Internal medicine residents starting in July of 2023. The Internal Medicine program will begin with 15 PGY-1 Residents and grow to a full program of 45 residents over the first three years.

Resident rotations will include inpatient care at our 471-bed hospital, ambulatory care in our internal medicine clinic, medical intensive care, and multiple elective subspecialty rotations throughout our community practices. Residents will have the opportunity to manage diverse patients with a broad range of diseases. Residents will experience a variety of training methods to include didactics, hands-on simulation training, and one-on-one faculty interaction. Residents will use Epic as the electronic health record for both hospital and ambulatory clinic rotations.

Mentoring and career development begin on day one, starting with pairing residents with a faculty mentor based on their future career goals. One of our top priorities outside of personal and professional growth of the resident physician is resident wellness. The overall program structure is designed to allow residents to achieve a work/life balance while being held to the highest academic standards.

Whether your desire is subspecialty fellowship, hospital-based medicine, or primary care, Mary Washington Healthcare will provide clinical, educational, and scholarly opportunities to help you achieve your personal and professional goals.

Thanks for taking the time to get to know us. We look forward to you coming to grow with us!
